In Tirunelveli  a total of 8.62 lakh  children were given de-worming tablet between the age of 1 and 19.  The special camps are being organized as a part of National de-worming day.  The camp was inaugurated by the collector M.Karunakaran.  The motto of setting up this camp is to protect children from anaemia.  In all schools,anganvadis,and  primary health centres,camp is conducted for this purpose.  The field staff of Department of  public and the anganavadi workers covered  school dropouts and any children of gypsies.  8,62,823 children were covered during the de-worming session between the age of 1 and 19.  For children below 2 tablet or syrup would be given while for others it is tablet.  The Collector appealed to the parents to ignore the rumours being spread by mischievous elements about the measles-rubella vaccine being administered to school children.    Mr.Ram Ganesh Deputy Director of Public Health was present.  In neighbouring town,thoothukudi district ,district collector inaugurated on Friday.  These special camps have benefitted around 4,39,126 children.
