Public banks took action against 5,954 wilful defaulters

Twenty-one public sector banks have taken loan recovery action under SARFAESI Act against 5,954 wilful defaulters owing about ₹70,000 crore till the end of March 31, according to the Finance Ministry.

The SBI alone has taken action against 1,444 defaulters with outstanding loans of ₹20,943 crore.

Notably, all wilful defaulters combined owe public sector banks as much as ₹92,376 crore
