In Coimbatore district, The National highways division is reconstructing the parapet walls (Cross barriers) on Uppilipalayam flyover at a total cost of 5.5 crores. It comes under the State Highways Department. The renewal of the roads is part of the project. Due to heavy vehicle movement, works are done only during night hours to avoid traffic congestions during daytime. The walls are damaged at many places in the flyover and it is for the safety, works have been taken up. “The department should engage a consultant and study how the flyover can be improved. The consultant should suggest whether a new flyover should be constructed or the existing one should be widened, etc.” said Mr.Kathirmathiyon secretary of Coimbatore consumer cause. He added that flyover is almost 50 years old and a consultant should be appointed to study how Lanka Corner and the Uppilipalayam flyover can be improved.
