As per the Central Water Commission (CWC), prospects of Srisailam reservoir getting surplus  water this year too have improved with the increase of  flood to it from Tungabhadra and Jurala projects to about 2.17 lakh cusecs on Thursday evening .  “The quantity of flood will add over one tmc ft of storage to the reservoir every hour but the increasing drawals from different irrigation systems by both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and discharge of water into the river course for improving the storage of Nagarjunasagar is restricting the building up of level in Srisailam,” a senior engineer monitoring flood at Srisailam told The Hindu. According to the flood monitoring officials, the drawal of water from Srisailam reservoir on Thursday night (8 p.m.) stood at 24,000 cusecs including for Pothireddypadu (20,000), Handri-Neeva (2,025) and Kalwakurthy (1,600). Another 74,000 cusecs was being released to the river course from Srisailam after power generation by AP and Telangana.  “The release of flood to Nagarjunasagar is being done as part of the Krishna River Management Board’s directions to supplement 62 tmc ft water between July 28 and August 22,” the Irrigation Department officials said.
