The petition to open Sterlite: Rejection of National Green Tribunal

The National Green Tribunal dismissed the request of Sterlite’s firm demanding the opening of the Tuticorin plant in   yesterday. The Tribunal also refused to impose interim bans for the state government’s shutdown

Tamilnadu government ordered the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board to shut down the plant on May 28, following the protests against the Sterlite plant in Thoothukudi and the death toll in the May 22 gunfire.

The Tribunal has refused to impose interim restrictions on the orders of the Tamil Nadu Government to shut down the plant. To maintain the plant, the plant’s administration was also rejected. The trial is to be postponed till August 9.
