On Wednesday the regular passengers of Venad express felt the travelling experience a less shaky and more comfortable one. This train has started operating with the modern centre Buffer coaches (CBC). At present, only two trains in the division boast modern coaches with added safety features – Chennai Mail with the LHB coaches and Venad with the CBC rake. The maiden services of the train was operated by Loco pilot K.Vijayan . He said that the new coaches absorb the shocks to a great extent both when brakes are applied and the train chugs into life at the blow of the whistle thanks to the buffers in between the coaches. Passengers found it to be more convenient. Paul K.J. Manvettom, president of the All Kerala Railway Users’ Association, expressed the hope that the rake would not be withdrawn in favour of other divisions as it happened in the case of Diesel Multiple Unit originally deployed in the Ernakulam-Angamaly section. The coaches built at the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, boast better interiors, ergonomically designed seats and modular lavatories. The LED display in the coaches will provide details of approaching stations based on GPS data. LED lights, modular switch boards, laptop/mobile charging points and LED-based signage too are other features in the coaches. More trains in the division are likely to use the modern coaches in the future.
