Virender Sehwag sends 2-line application to be India coach post ICC Champions Trophy?

Virender Sehwag has reportedly pulled off a Virender Sehwag as he applied for the post of Team India head coach. While Anil Kumble, who has done remarkably well as the Indian cricket team head coach in his one-year tenure, his contract is coming to an end following the ICC Champions Trophy in England.

Although Kumble’s record indicates that he deserves an extension, BCCI has invited applications for the post of head coach. The reports of his alleged differences with skipper Virat Kohli, which the Indian captain vehemently denied, may also mean that Kumble may not get another term as India coach despite being given a direct entry in the application process.

Kumble will be competing against the likes of Sehwag, Richard Pybus, Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput, Dodda Ganesh and Craig McDermott to win the race to one of the most talked about jobs in world cricket.

While Moody is one of the frontrunners for the job, Sehwag may get a nod ahead of the former Australian cricketer and current Sunrisers Hyderabad coach. However, it is learnt that Sehwag just sent across a two-line application for the post.

A report in the Indian Express quoted a BCCI official saying: “Sehwag being Sehwag has sent his application in two lines. There was no CV attached to it. We had to ask him to send his CV too along with his application. After all it will be the first time he is set to appear for the interview.”

The report also added that Sehwag, in his application, wrote: He was a “mentor and a coach of Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League and has played with all these (Indian) boys before”.
