Two people died and three more were injured on Tuesday in an explosion and fire at an industrial complex in suburban Miami, police told CNN. According to news agency Associated Press, the explosion in the suburb of Medley shot a large fireball into the sky and left several trucks, cars and other vehicles in flames.
A fire department spokesperson told CNN that multiple vehicles were on fire when they arrived at the scene. He added that more than 20 Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue units were at the scene.
Two of the injured had burn injuries, said the spokesperson. Out of the two, one was airlifted to a Miami hospital, and another was transported by ground. The third injured person was treated at the scene. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene.
The police department said the cause of the explosion is still under investigation. A truck-cleaning company and welding shops were listed to have operated from the site of the explosion.
Medley is an industrial area of Miami-Dade and is near Doral, where another fire has been burning for more than a week.
