Bengaluru is the second slowest city in the world to drive in as one can cover 10 km in 29 minutes and 10 seconds in the city, stated a report by TomTom, a Dutch multinational developer of location technology.

It took 29 minutes and 9 seconds to travel 10 km in Bengaluru city centre last year, it stated.

Tom Tom, a multinational developer of traffic-based technologies, released its index on Thursday. It detailed traffic trends across 389 cities in 56 countries, throughout 2022.

BENGALURU IS 2ND SLOWEST CITY. WHICH IS FIRST?

Tom Tom, in its research, stated that Bengaluru is globally the second slowest city to drive in, where it takes 29 minutes and 10 seconds of travel time to cover 10 km by road.

London ranks first with an average of 36 minutes and 20 seconds to travel 6.2 miles (10 km). Ireland’s capital, Dublin, Japanese town of Sapporo and Milan in Italy, rank third, 4th and 5th respectively, stated the report.

Pune was ranked 6th while Delhi was at 34th position. Similarly, Mumbai was ranked 47 with more than 21 minutes to travel 10 kms.

The study also found that Bengaluru is 4th in cities where traffic alone accounted for lost time. The city was 5th in the table for “Cities with the highest CO2 emissions per driven miles at rush hour.”

The average annual CO2 emission based on a six-mile round trip in Bengaluru is 974 kgs for petrol cars, the report suggested.
