The Madras High court was in for a shock recently when an advocate who appeared for virtual hearing was seen in a compromising position with a woman. The MHC has now initiated contempt proceedings against the advocate.

The incident happened in Justice Ilanthiraiyan’s court proceedings. An advocate, who appeared through virtual hearing, was found in a compromising position with a woman.

The video soon went viral on social media, and the bench of Justice Prakash and Hemalatha initiated a suo motu court proceedings in the matter. The court also ordered a CBCID enquiry into the matter as it is an offence under the IT act.

The court also observed that with several lawyers appearing for physical hearing, the court said that it is time to revisit the hybrid mode of hearing.

Meanwhile, the Bar council of TamilNadu and Puducherry have now suspended the advocate from practicing in any court.
