HIGHLIGHTS

  • Airtel is giving 1.5GB daily data with its Rs 199 plan for 35 days validity to select users.
  • The segmented offer is available to select users who may have not recharged in a while or those who subscribe to Smart Recharge packs.
  • Airtel Rs 199 regular plan gives 1GB daily data for 24 days with additional benefits.

Airtel has introduced a segmented offer where it is giving select users 35 days validity with its Rs 199 prepaid plan. In recent times, telecom companies have been directed to increase the validity of their 28 days plans to 30 days. However, Airtel along with Jio and Vi has asked the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to not intervene in fixing the validity spans of prepaid plans and to keep the matter under forbearance regime noting that TRAI’s intervention could lead to disruption and could destabilise mobile tariff structures that could hurt consumers. Currently, the forbearance regime that TRAI follows keeps it from interfering in telcos decisions to design tariffs including validity plans.

Coming to the Rs 199 prepaid plan, Airtel is giving a regular prepaid plan priced at Rs 199 which is giving 1GB daily data for 24 days with unlimited calls and SMS benefits. The additional benefits of this plan include access to Prime Video Mobile Edition, free Wynk Music, Free Hello Tunes, and Airtel XStream.

Now, according to Only Tech, Airtel is giving a segmented offer at Rs 199 with 1.5 GB high-speed data per day, truly unlimited voice calling, and 100 SMS per day along with 35 calendar days tariff validity. This plan is not for all users and may be available to users who may not have been recharged recently or subscribe to Smart Recharge packs.

Airtel has also launched a bulk data offer priced at Rs 456 plan with bulk data and unlimited calls to counter Jio’s freedom plans. The plan offers 50GB data for 60 days validity with unlimited calls and 100 SMS per day. This means that users will not have a daily data limit with this plan and can use data as per their requirements. After the exhaustion of data, users will be required to pay 50 paise per megabyte Re 1 per local and Rs. 1.5 per national SMS message.
The additional benefits of this plan include access to Prime Video Mobile Edition, free hello tunes, Wynk music, Airtel XStream Premium, and Rs 100 cashback on Fastag.

Airtel has also started its 5G trials in Gurgaon where it was able to attain 1Gbps speed in the middle band spectrum of 3500 Mhz. Airtel is carrying out the trials in compliance with the guidelines of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). DoT has allocated spectrum to Airtel in four Indian telecom circles including Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Delhi. The telco is likely to test the mid-spectrum in other regions of the country.
