Ever since Akshay Kumar has announced his upcoming film Prithviraj, it has been receiving a lot of criticism. From its cast to its title, the film has come at the receiving end for all the wrong reasons. The film, backed by YRF, will also mark Miss World Manushi Chillar’s Bollywood debut.

Akshay had announced this project in 2019 with the tweet that reads, “Elated to share about my 1st historical film on my birthday. Humbled to have the opportunity to play a hero I look up to for his valour and values – Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan in one of my biggest films ‘Prithviraj'”.

Earlier, Karni Sena had demanded a title change of the film and now, Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Mahasabha is protesting for the same. Recently, a protest was held by the Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Mahasabha in Chandigarh, and during the same, Akshay’s effigy was burned.

Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Mahasabha members and the people associated with the organisation said that the name of the film cannot be just Prithviraj, but the full name should be Hindu Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan or Emperor Prithviraj Chauhan. They are of the belief that Prithviraj Chauhan was the last Hindu emperor and in such a scenario, the name of the film should give full respect to his name.

That’s not all, the members also demanded that the film should be shown to the representatives of Kshatriya and Rajput society so that they can see whether there is any controversy in the film or if there is any tampering with history in the film. The demonstration took place in sector 45, Chandigarh and the members also threatened that if the producer-director does not take actions and put an end to all the controversies related to the film, then the film will face the same fate as the Kshatriya Samaj did to Padmaavat and Jodhaa Akbar during the release of the films.

While protesting, they shouted slogans and also burned the effigy of the film’s producer-director and Akshay.

While Sanjay Leela Bhansali did change the title of Padmaavat after the protest, the makers of Prithviraj are yet to decide on the demands of these organisations. And if all goes well, then the film will release on Diwali 2021.

When Karni Sena demanded a title change, the filmmaker Surjeet Singh Rathore, who is the president of the Youth Wing of the Karni Sena had said, “If they don’t listen to our advice they will have to face the consequences. What happened to Sanjay Leela Bhansali during ‘Padmaavat’, the makers of this film will have to be prepared for it, too.”

Its left to be seen what the makes of Prithviraj decide about the title of the film.
