The YS Jagan-led Andhra Pradesh government on Monday, November 22, decided to repeal the three-capital bill. The state will have only one capital, said the government.

The Jagan Mohan Reddy government had brought in the AP Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill, 2020, to give shape to its plan of having three capitals for the state, with the executive capital in Visakhapatnam, legislative capital in Amaravati and judicial capital in Kurnool.

It also provided for dividing the state into various zones and establishing zonal planning and development boards.

Advocate General S Sriram submitted the government’s decision to the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday.

Protests, by TDP, BJP, and Janasena, against setting up three regional capitals had been going on for over 700 days. A 45-day Amaravati farmers’ march is also on to demand Amravati as the capital of the state.
