A35-year old woman in Andhra Pradesh allegedly fed poison-laced cold drink to her two daughters before consuming it herself on Thursday.

Her seven-year-old daughter succumbed while the woman and her elder daughter were being shifted to a hospital in Nuzvid town of Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada, the Times of India reported on Saturday.

Police said the incident happened late Thursday when Daida Naga Lakshmi (35), a farm labourer, fed poison to her children.

On hearing the screams of the children, neighbours reached Laskhmi’s house and found the two kids lying unconscious. The children were then rushed to a government hospital.

The three were later shifted to Vijayawada Government General Hospital (GGH). Doctors said they were in a critical condition.

The initial investigation revealed that Daida Naga Lakshmi’s husband, who was a daily wage worker, had died due to Covid-19 last year. Since then, she had been struggling for a livelihood, police were quoted as saying.
