Apple is expected to launch the second generation AirTag. The Cupertino-giant launched the AirTag in 2021. It is a tracking device which is primarily used to track important belongings. Popular analyst Ming Chi Kuo has predicted that Apple is working on the second generation AirTag soon. The device has been embroiled in controversies ever since it was launched. While Apple had launched it with a clear intention of letting people track their belongings, people have misused the device for stalking people.

As per Ming Chi Kuo, Apple may consider a second generation AirTag. “AirTag, which has not received much attention, has gradually grown in shipments since its release. Shipment estimations of AirTag reach about 20 mn & 35 mn units in 2021 & 2022, respectively. If AirTag shipments continue to grow, I believe Apple will develop the 2nd generation,” Kuo tweeted.

So Apple will only consider launching a second generation AirTag if the total sales cross 35 million units in 2022. If the sales reports are to be considered, AirTag, despite all the controversies, has gained prominence in the market. It is the first name that pops up as far as fitness trackers are concerned. While Kuo has not revealed a definite timeline, he says that the launch of the second gen AirTag will only depend on the total number of sales.

In India, the Apple AirTag is priced at Rs 3190 for the single unit but if you want more, you can also get a pack of four which is priced at Rs 10,900. You can also customise the device and get an engraving done.

We at India Today Tech got a chance to review the device and here is what we felt about the device: .AirTag will make sure that your losing things experience is less painful. But, it needs additional accessories to attach to things like keys and a backpack, which means it will add more cost to your overall purchase.
The Apple AirTag is easy to set up and comes with a replaceable battery that can last up to a year, as per Apple. Furthermore, you don’t need any additional app to go with the AirTag as it takes advantage of the Find My app and the network of Apple devices available globally. Furthermore, Apple guarantees users’ privacy as it says that the entire lost and found process is encrypted, and even the company can’t track you.
