Days after it was launched from the shores of Florida in Cape Canaveral, the Orion spacecraft is set to reach its target destination – the Moon. The spacecraft, which will soon return humans to the lunar world, will buzz the Moon on the sixth day of its 25.5-day-long mission.

Earlier, the spacecraft entered the lunar sphere of influence, making the Moon, instead of Earth, the main gravitational force acting on the spacecraft.

The liftoff of the Artemis-1 rocket marked the start of NASA’s Artemis lunar exploration program, named after Apollo’s mythological twin sister. The space agency is aiming to send four astronauts around the moon on the next flight, in 2024, and land humans there as early as 2025.
