After visiting Amravati in Maharashtra on Sunday, Leader of the Opposition and member of BJP Devendra Fadnavis addressed a press conference in which he ‘dared’ the ruling government to ban Raza Academy.

“I demand a ban on Raza Academy. I dare the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi government to ban Raza Academy,” he said.

This comes in the wake of violence in Amravati earlier this month. Raza Academy had organised a protest on November 12 against communal violence in Tripura. The next day a bandh was reportedly organised by BJP workers in protest against the previous day’s rally. During the bandh, Amravati witnessed stone-pelting and several shops and vehicles were damaged.

On Sunday, Devendra Fadnavis added, “Everyone knows which party’s A and B team Raza Academy is. You should check who it is in pictures with Raza Academy’s people.”

“I demand a ban on it [Raza Academy]. Will you do it? Congress doesn’t have courage as everyone knows whose child Raza Academy is,” he was quoted by ANI news agency.

FADNAVIS VISITS AMRAVATI

After visiting Amravati, Devendra Fadnavis tweeted photographs on Sunday. He wrote, “Hearing what they went through is very disturbing. This morning, we visited Amravati and met various citizens in different localities, who suffered damages, pain during recent violence.”

He also alleged that people who were not responsible for the violence had been booked by the police and were facing action.

Devendra Fadnavis said a “thorough investigation should be carried out to ascertain who gave permission for the rallies in the city”.
