The Biju Janata Dal has found itself facing an unexpected alliance of political parties recently — the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party — united against it in launching an unusual ‘egg attack’.
After BJP supporters hurled eggs at the convoy of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Puri on Wednesday, Congress supporters targeted BJD MP Aparajita Sarangi in the same manner near Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
Earlier on Sunday, activists of the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal, the student wing of the ruling BJD, hurled eggs at Union Minister Bishweswar Tudu’s convoy in Kendrapada as a protest against the rise in fuel prices.

Protesting unemployment and price-rise, Congress workers showed Aparajita Sarangi black flags at Banamalipur and hurled eggs at her vehicle.
The police detained two persons based on a complaint by the Bhubaneswar MP’s representative, Dhaneswar Barik. He alleged that the attackers also hurled stones at the vehicle and that they were carrying knives and other weapons.
Meanwhile, supporters of the ruling BJD and Opposition BJP had a heated exchange at the foundation laying ceremony for the new railway station building in Balasore. The argument broke out over claims of credit for the project. While BJP workers raised slogans praising PM Narendra Modi, BJD workers hailed CM Patnaik.
BJP MP Pratap Sarangi and BJD MLA Swarup Das, who were present at the event, somehow managed to calm the supporters of their respective parties.
The argument was traced to the claims of BJD and BJP, with each claiming credit for the project. While BJD’s state youth wing president Suvendu Mangaraj claimed that the state government had a share in the project, BJP’s Yuva Morcha president in Balasore, Rajesh Mohapatra, asserted that Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw was the Collector of Balasore when it had been sanctioned.
