Prabir Ghosal, former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA who had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the run-up to the West Bengal Assembly elections 2021, wrote an article in TMC mouthpiece Jago Bangla criticising the BJP.

In the article titled ‘KENO BJP KORA JAE NA’ (Why one can’t work in BJP?), Prabir Ghosal said, “There are more people in the BJP who want money rather than to work for the people.” He termed the internal experiences “dangerous”.

Prabir Ghosal said that when his mother was unwell, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee was in touch with him even though he was part of the BJP, but no BJP leader was in touch with him.

Prabir Ghosal’s article comes ahead of the civic polls of Howrah, where he was considered a heavyweight.

Prabir Ghosal had contested this year’s West Bengal Assembly polls the Uttarpara seat and lost to Kanchan Mullick, a film star who contested on a TMC ticket.

Ghosal had quit the TMC in January 2021, citing his differences with the leadership. Though he has written an article criticising the BJP’s mannerisms, he’s still a part of the party.

He and other heavyweight leaders — Rajib Banerjee and Mukul Roy — had joined the BJP earlier. However, Mukul Roy and Rajib Banerjee rejoined the TMC in June and October respectively.

When asked if he would return to the TMC, Prabir Ghosal said he has not decided on the matter yet but has written (in the article) about his experiences with the BJP during elections.
