Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Javadekar hit out at the ruling government in Kerala over the decision to reinstate MLA Saji Cherian into the cabinet. The MLA, who resigned in July, is set to be sworn in again at 4 pm today.

Hitting out at the ruling government’s decision, Prakash Javadekar said, “For the first time, I am seeing a minister who pledged to safeguard the constitution, insulting the constitution and later being reinstated to the ministry.”

He further said that the video of MLA Cherian should be made viral so that the people know what CM Pinarayi Vijayan was doing.

“I condemn his statements on the constitution. Dr Ambedkar who framed our constitution has been insulted. There was the video but still, police gave him a clean sheet,” argued MP Prakash Javadekar, and added, “Saji Cherian should resign again. We will keep fighting for it.”

Further, attacking the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala, the Rajya Sabha MP said, “Liquor, drugs, lottery, crime and smuggling: These are the five points of this government. This government is destroying Kerala.”

MLA Saji Cherian quit the Left Democratic Front (LDF) ministry on July 6 following public outrage.

In his public address, MLA Cherian claimed that “The British prepared it (the constitution), Indians wrote it and implemented it. India wrote a beautiful constitution that can be used to loot. In that constitution, there are few places that have reference to secularism, democracy, but it can be exploited.”

This controversial statement against the constitution sparked massive public outrage, following which MLA Cherian resigned from the post. Now, the CPM state secretariat has recommended adding Cherian to the cabinet again, to which the governor has given his nod.
