A university student in the United Kingdom was flabbergasted when she went to the toilet before a night out due to stomach pain and gave birth to a child.

The woman, Jess Davis, who turned 20 a day after delivering the baby, had no pregnancy symptoms and thought that she was having abdominal pain because she was due on her period, according to the Independent.

She also did not have a baby bump.

But the second-year student at the University of Southampton was stunned when she gave birth to a 5lb 5oz baby boy while sitting in the toilet.

Jess said, “My periods have always been irregular, so I didn’t really notice. I sometimes felt nauseous, but I had started taking a new prescription, so I just put it down to my new medication. When he was born, it was the biggest shock of my life – I thought I was dreaming at first.”

“It suddenly hit me that I really need to grow up. It took a little while to get over the initial shock and adjust and bond with him, but now I’m over the moon. He is the most chilled baby ever. He’s known as the quiet baby on the ward,” she said.

Davis is now getting used to motherhood after welcoming her son, Freddie Oliver Davis, into the world on June 11, 2022, at 4.45 pm.

‘GAVE BIRTH IN THE TOILET’

The woman revealed that when she woke up in severe pain that morning, she assumed it was the start of her period. She was barely able to walk and couldn’t even lie down on her bed.

She felt a sudden overwhelming need to go to the toilet, so she sat down and started to push. “At no point did I think I was giving birth,” she said. “But at one point I felt tearing, but I didn’t know what it was,” she added.

She pushed hard and gave birth to the boy. However, only after she heard him cry did she realise what had actually happened. She immediately called her best friend, who advised her to call an ambulance.

Jess was taken to Princess Anne Hospital, where the baby boy was put in an incubator. According to the doctors, the child was born at 35 weeks gestation. The mother and the baby are now recovering well.
