Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram on Tuesday, November 30, slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, implying that his assurance of debates on “any issue” was a farce as the farm bills were repealed without a debate.

“On the eve of the Parliament session, the Prime Minister offered to debate “any issue”. On the first day and on the first item of business, the farm bills were repealed without a debate,” he tweeted. “The Bills were passed without a debate when the two sides did not agree, the Bills were repealed without a debate when the two sides agreed. Whichever way, there was no debate,” he added.

“Long live debate-less Parliamentary democracy,” he said.

Trinamool MP in the Rajya Sabha Derek O’Brien, too, had alleged that no debate was allowed on the bill on Monday.

Chidambaram also brought up the issue of comedian Munawar Faruqui’s show being cancelled. “All in a day’s work for the ‘tolerant’ Hindutva brigade. Comedian Munawar Faruqui’s show is cancelled, a Church is vandalised in Matiala, Delhi. We can boast that we are a tolerant nation where all faiths live together in harmony and peace,” he added.
