Indore:

Madhya Pradesh Congress MLA’s rape-accused son Karan Morwal, who was absconding for over six months, was arrested by the Madhya Pradesh police in Indore on Tuesday.

Morwal was on the run for the past six months and there were reports that he could have escaped to Nepal. According to officials, he was held during the early hours of Tuesday and has been locked in Mahila Thana in Indore.

The Madhya Pradesh Police had put up posters of Morwal, the son of Congress’ Badnagar MLA Murli Morwal, and also announced a cash prize of Rs 5000 on his head. Days ago, the bounty was further increased to Rs 15,000. Lookout posters were put up in several areas of Ujjain and parts of Indore. The police teams investigating the case had also carried out raids at the residence and farmhouse of Morwal.

Tried to settle the matter: Congress MLA told Times Now

As reported earlier by Times Now, the victim, a Youth Congress functionary, had lodged a complaint against Morwal in April. According to the complaint filed by the victim, the accused allegedly took her to a local hotel in Indore on February 14.  She fell unconscious after consuming a drink offered by him. He allegedly raped her at a flat and later, when she gained consciousness, he told her that he intended to marry her.

Earlier this month, Times Now had confronted Congress MLA Vishal Patel who had admitted that he ‘tried to settle the matter’ with the victim. An audio clip of a purported conversation between Patel and the victim had gone viral.
