India logs 80,834 new Covid-19 cases, active cases down by 54,000

India registered 80,834 new Covid-19 cases and 3,303 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Top five states which have registered maximum cases are Tamil Nadu with 15,108 cases, followed by Kerala with 13,832 cases, Maharashtra with 10,697 cases, Karnataka with 9,785 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 6,952 cases. At least 69.74% of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Tamil Nadu alone responsible for 18.69% of the new cases.

Maximum deaths were reported in Maharashtra (1,966), followed by Tamil Nadu with 374 daily deaths.

In the last 24 hours, active cases declined by 54,531, bringing the active caseload to 10,26,159.

A total of 1,32,062 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, which brings the total recoveries to 2,80,43,446 across the country.

India has administered a total of 34,84,239 doses in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 25,31,95,048.

Odisha govt orders probe into ‘fake’ Covid-19 medicine circulation

The Odisha government on Saturday ordered a probe into the alleged circulation of ‘fake’ Covid-19 medicines, PTI reported. The government also decided to initiate legal action against those responsible for supplying “spurious Covid-19 medicines” seized in the last two days, they said.

Health and Family Welfare Department’s Additional Chief Secretary PK Mohapatra issued a direction to the Odisha State Medical Corporation Ltd and the police to launch a joint inquiry into the seizure of alleged spurious drugs and submit a report.

“Prosecution cases will be started in the specially designated courts under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act,” PTI quoted him as saying. (PTI).

‘Corona mata’ temple built in UP village, demolished after five days

People at Juhi Shukulpur village near Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh built a “corona mata” temple, seeking divine grace to stay clear of the infection. Villagers said the temple was constructed five days ago by Lokesh Kumar Srivastava with the help of donations from local residents.

However, the temple built on June 7 was demolished on Friday night. Villagers alleged that it was demolished by the police, who denied the charge, saying it was constructed on a disputed site and one of the parties involved in the dispute razed it.

Three Rajasthan districts report zero new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours

Rajasthan has been witnessing a significant drop in new and active Covid-19 cases in the state. The total number of active Covid-19 cases in the state has dropped below 10,000. Currently, there are 8,400 active cases in the state.

On Saturday, 368 new active Covid-19 cases and 16 deaths were reported, according to the 24-hour data provided by the health department of Rajasthan government.

Three districts in the state registered zero new active Covid cases in the 24-hour period. These districts are Jalore, Baran and Dungarpur. Seven districts in the state registered only one new Covid-19 case.

Goa extends Covid curfew till June 21, marriages permitted with 50 people cap

The Goa government on Saturday extended the Covid-induced curfew in the state till June 21, with a few more relaxations. Chief minister Pramod Sawant said the curfew will remain in force up to 7 am on June 21.

The Government has decided to extend the State Level Curfew till 7AM, 21 June 2021. Shops, including in Panchayat and Municipal markets, may open between 7 am to 3 PM. Marriage function upto 50 persons have been permitted with the permission. 1/2— Dr. Pramod Sawant
