In a recent Twitter conversation, actor Dhanush opened up on his future directorial plans. Dhanush, Karthik Subbaraj, lyricist Vivek and Santhosh Narayanan joined the group chat. 

The conversation was organised by Sony Music South ahead of Jagame Thandhiram streaming on 18 June 2021. And while in conversation, talks over Dhanush’s directorial stint crawled in. For the unversed, Dhanush made his directorial debut in 2017 with the film Power Pandi, starring Raj Kiran, Revathy, Divyadharshini, Prasanna, and Madonna Sebastian.  

The film became a blockbuster and people were elated to see Dhanush don the directorial cap. After Power Pandi, Dhanush began his second movie as a director a year ago. However, the film was dropped due to reasons unknown. 

In the Twitter spaces conversation, Dhanush expressed his strong interests to direct a film. The actor claimed that he also has a script which he called exciting and so close to his heart. But time did not fall in place for Dhanush as he has been receiving continuous acting opportunities. Dhanush felt happy to work with exciting talents such as Mari Selvaraj, Karthik Subbaraj. Ramkumar of Ratsasan fame.

The Asuran actor also said that he met a couple of young filmmakers with whom he will work in future. Finally, he said, “I don’t see myself directing any film for the next three years”. 

Meanwhile, on the work front, Dhanush has Jagame Thandhiram in his pipeline. The first single Rakita Rakita from the movie was released last year along with a lyrical video on YouTube. The song was written by Vivek and became a sensational hit on the video-sharing platform. Dhanush’s rustic Madurai guy look in Veshti Sattai was loved by the fans. 

Followed by Rakita Rakita, the video of the second single Buji, which was also written by Vivek, got released. Dhanush’s energetic dance moves and colourful visuals made the song a blockbuster hit on YouTube. Sheriff’s choreography and Santhosh Narayanan’s peppy beats added immense value to the output of the song. Later the makers released other songs from the film including Nethu and Ala Ola

The gangster film has a stellar cast including James Cosmo, Joju George, Kalaiyarasan, Soundararaja, Deepak Paramesh, Devan, Vadivukarasi, Ramachandran Durairaj, Sanchana Natarajan, Muthukumar, Roman Fiori, Ashwanth Ashokkumar and Madurai Alapparai. 

Jagame Thandhiram’s theatrical release has been shelved by the makers due to the pandemic situation. Ironically, Dhanush’s Karnan which was completed only after Jagame Thandhiram got released in theatres and became a blockbuster.  After many speculations, Jagame Thandiram was sold to Netflix who announced the film’s streaming date as 18 June 2021.
