Gauhati University recently reported cases of COVID-19 amongst hostel dwellers. The cases were reported after the screening was undertaken by the government of Assam for the last 7 days. Following this, the varsity decided to suspend offline classes for students till December 19, 2021.
Thus, as per the directive issued by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of GU, the cultural night that was supposed to take place on December 14, 2021, has been canceled. The ‘Talent Search Competition’ was supposed to take place on the cultural night. It was being organized by the Post Graduate Students Union. As of now, there has been no reportage of cases of Omcron in the state.
The total number of active cases of COVID-19 in Assam is 2469 cases. The active ratio due to COVID-19 in the state is 0.40%. Further, the death ratio due to COVID-19 in the state is 0.99%.

Thus, owing to the prevailing situation, as per the official notice released by Gauhati University, both hostels and physical classes have been suspended by the varsity till December 19, 2021. Further, as per the notice issued, the entry of outsiders would be suspended during this period. As per the guidelines issued by the Registrar, the office would also run with minimum functioning. Further, all stakeholders should be following proper COVID-19 guidelines such as wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, using hand sanitizer, and other guidelines to mitigate the spread of the virus.
