Doctors often recommend sleeping for 7-9 hours every day. There are a lot of bodily functions that take place when the body is asleep which are important for your health.

However, sometimes, due to consecutive interrupted sleep nights, late-night dinners, heavy meals, stress and anxiety, and many other factors can cause trouble sleeping.

Dietician Renuka Dang, Global Rainbow Healthcare, Agra, shared foods that can help a person sleep properly and peacefully at night. “People often eat junk food in the evening which doesn’t help them sleep. It causes indigestion. Caffeine in any form should also be avoided in the evenings or at night,” says Dr Dang. Here are 4 foods that may help a person sleep well.

WARM MILK

A glass of warm milk contains amino acids that have been shown to improve sleep and mood, especially among the elderly. Tryptophan, an amino acid in warm milk, plays an important role in the production of serotonin and melatonin.

DRY FRUITS

Dr Dang recommends having dry fruits after dinner to improve digestion and help you sleep well. Cashews, almonds and walnuts are great choices for evening snacks to help you sleep.

CHAMOMILE TEA

A highly recommended tea for those who have trouble sleeping, chamomile tea is known to soothe and calm the body. It helps to relieve stress and gives you a good sleep.

GINGER-TULSI WATER

Ginger and tulsi can be boiled in water to make this soothing concoction. Dr Dang recommends this drink for digestion and uninterrupted sleep.
