As heatwave conditions continue to grip parts of the country, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heatwave warnings in several districts in West Bengal till April 30.

HEATWAVE CONDITIONS LIKELY

Predicting heatwave conditions, the IMD wrote, “Heatwave conditions is likely over Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, interior Gangetic West Bengal and interior Odisha during April 27 to 30” (sic)

As per the IMD, mainly West to North-Westerly winds are prevailing over the region. Heat Wave conditions are likely to prevail over Bankura, Purulia, East & West Burdwan, West Midnapore, Jhargram and Birbhum districts of South Bengal, said IMD.

TEMPERATURE SOARS

As the state continued to reel under severe heatwave conditions, the maximum temperature crossed the 40-degrees Celsius mark in several districts, with Bankura recording 43.7 Degrees Celsius, followed by Purulia (42.8 degrees Celsius), Jhargram (42.5 degrees Celsius), East Burdwan (Burdwan 42.4 degrees Celsius) among others.

Meanwhile, citing heatwave conditions in the state, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata has announced to prepone schools’ summer vacation to May 2. Moreover, caution is being advised for vulnerable people.
