Heavy Rain declared holiday for schools 

 

Good rains reported in Chennai. North Chennai in particular got heavy rains with Ennore becoming the first station from Chennai city to clock 100 mm rainfall in 2018.In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Pamban recorded a whopping 75 mm of rains, Karaikal saw 58 mm of rainfall, Atiramapattinam 52 mm of rains, Parangipettai 51 mm, Thanjavur 30 mm, Ooty 24 mm, and Chennai 25 mm of rains.

District collectors of Chennai, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanchipuram & Thiruvallur officially declared holiday today (Friday, 5th October) for all schools due to incessant heavy rains.Northeast Monsoon spans from October to December. Although there is no specific date for the onset of this season, but weather conditions begin to change somewhere during the second week itself.

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has warned that there are prospects of mild rain in the next 3 days in several places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry until 7th October. There are prospects of heavy rain in some places.Tamil Nadu including Chennai records over 60% of its annual rainfall during this season, with November being the rainiest month.
