Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar on Monday said that he was sent to Tihar jail because he did not join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Shivakumar’s statement came after KS Eshwrappa, rural development and panchayat raj minister, questioned why he went to jail.

Responding to Eshwrappa’s remark, DK Shivakumar said, “Why did I go to Tihar jail? Because you (BJP) sent me there. You sent me because I didn’t support you or join you. There are records to prove it.”

Reacting to Shivakumar’s statement, BJP MLA Renukacharya said, “it’s laughable that DK Shivakumar is blaming BJP for going to prison”.

Shivakumar was lodged in Tihar jail for around 50 days after he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on September 3, 2019 in a money laundering case. He was released on October 23 after the Delhi High Court granted him bail.

The Karnataka Congress President also demanded an enquiry into the contractor allegations of government bureaucrats and MLAs demanding bribes.
