Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a new Diploma program in Development Communication. It goes by the name Post Graduate Diploma in Development Communication (PGDDC). The program is set to launch from July 2021. Interested students can get more details at the official site ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.

The duration of the PGDDC is one year. The idea behind this program is to help students develop an overall understanding of the core issues of the development process. According to the program, this would in turn would help students to find employment opportunities in various local, national and international.

The program is an open distance learning program. It has been started by the School of Journalism and New Media Studies. It will be taught in English.

IGNOU PG program in Development Communication: Details

  1. To be eligible for the program, one must have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
  2. The fee for the program is Rs. 5000 which is payable in one installment.

This is a 36 credit program and consists of 5 theory courses + 1 elective course.

  1. Fundamentals of Development and Communication
  2. Human Development and Communication
  3. Media in Development Communication
  4. Development Journalism for Social Change
  5. Development: Information and Communication Technologies

Any one elective course

  1. Research Methods in Development Communication
  2. Project Work / Project Workbook

Talking in context of the program, Professor K G Suresh, Vice Chancellor, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal said that the importance of Development Communication cannot be overestimated and the time for this discipline and course has come.
