If you are a habitual troll, Instagram may not let you get away with trolling so easily. The Facebook-owned messaging app has rolled out new features to protect people from abuse on Instagram. Public figures, influencers and people with public accounts are subjected to relentless trolling every day. People post the nastiest things from their fake accounts and get away with it so easily. But not anymore, Instagram will give more controls to users to limit such pointless interactions and will also firmly warn uses from posting derogatory comments.

Instagram is a platform that should be solely used for entertainment purposes, but some miscreants derive their pleasure from trolling people. People not only get body-shamed but also get threats sometimes for expressing their opinions on the platform. Instagram had earlier rolled out the option of restricting the comments section but some people despite getting heavily trolled on the platform did not quite use the feature.

“We have a responsibility to make sure everyone feels safe when they come to Instagram. We don’t allow hate speech or bullying on Instagram, and we remove it whenever we find it. We also want to protect people from having to experience this abuse in the first place, which is why we’re constantly listening to feedback from experts and our community, and developing new features to give people more control over their experience on Instagram, and help protect them from abuse,” Instagram said.

Instagram has launched a new feature called Limits, which will automatically hide comments and DM requests from people who don’t follow you, or who only recently followed you. This is an opt-in feature and users can turn it on whenever they feel that there is a rush of abusive comments and DMs.

Talking about the trolls, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said, “Our research shows that a lot of negativity towards public figures comes from people who don’t actually follow them, or who have only recently followed them, and who simply pile on in the moment. We saw this after the recent Euro 2020 final, which resulted in a significant – and unacceptable – spike in racist abuse towards players.”

Instagram is rolling out Limits to everyone globally from today. Users can go to privacy settings to turn it on, or off, whenever you want.

Apart from that, Instagram has said that it will show a warning to people who post a potentially offensive comment under a picture. So every time a users trust to post a derogatory comment below a picture, Instagram will show a warning to them that their post may get removed if they proceed. Instagram noted that the feature worked for them as last week they had warned a lot of people before posting offensive comments but after seeing the warning, over 50 percent of times the comment was edited or deleted
