The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday shot down a hexacopter drone in Akhnoor area of Jammu district. The drone was shot down around 8 km inside the International Border (IB).

Police also recovered 5 kg of improvised explosive device (IED) which was to be assembled and to be used by terrorists, police said.

Agencies are probing whether terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is behind the drone activity and using this modus operandi for a terror attack as in previous cases.

This is not the first time a drone was spotted in Jammu or near the International Borders. Since the twin blasts at the Jammu airbase on June 27, several drones were spotted in the last one month on multiple locations in Jammu, raising threat of a drone attack.

Amid the heightened drone activity, Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh recently directed officers to remain extra alert as terror outfits are continuously trying to use drones for terrorist activities.

“Terror outfits are continuously attempting to use drones for terrorist activities,” DGP Dilbag Singh was quoted by news agency PTI as saying.

DGP Dilbag Singh also said all the suspicious elements should be kept under check to foil their attempts.
