SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Jason Roy was elated after starring in SRH’s seven-wicket win over Rajasthan in Dubai as he expressed his gratitude to the franchise for giving him the opportunity on Monday. Roy trained, and waited hard for his opportunity for almost the entire season, eventually getting it in the business end of the tournament.

Roy, who was playing in place of the out-of-form David Warner in this match, combined with Wriddhiman Saha to give the Sunrisers a flying start, adding 57 runs in 5 overs. After Saha’s exit, Roy joined hands with captain Kane Williamson to stitch a 60-run partnership and hit a 42-ball 60 in Hyderabad’s second win of the season. Roy was adjudged the Player of the Match for his 60-run knock, which included 8 fours and a six

“Makes me extremely happy. Really grateful for the opportunity from SunRisers. Have been training, and waiting hard. Grateful for this award too – we had some great performances today,” Roy said after picking up the Player of the Match award.

‘Saha was instrumental in opening partnership’

Roy also credited Wriddhiman Saha for his 11-ball 18 in the 57-run opening stand, saying the wicket-keeper batsman was instrumental in that partnership.

“Happy to get over the line. I had to kind of access different areas. Wasn’t as free-flowing the way I hoped. It was a case of getting the team close to the total. Saha was instrumental in that partnership,” he said.

Roy was happy with his performance but reckoned the side will have to restart once more in the next game.

“Allowed me to relax early on. We’ve got to keep our feet very grounded. We’ve had a tough tournament, but to come out today to chase a decent total was hugely impressive. We need to do the basics all over again.”

This win doesn’t change much for SRH. They are still bottom of the table and will next face table-toppers Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on September 30 in Sharjah.
