The Karnataka police are all geared up to open the doors of opportunities for transgenders by inviting applications in the ongoing recruitment to appoint special reserve subinspectors and Scene Of Crime Officers (SOCOs).

As per the report published by the Times of India, the Additional Director General of Police (Recruitment) released a statement that said that five of the 70 posts are reserved for transgenders. The aspirants aiming for the special posts can submit their online applications from December 12 till January 18.

Not just the Karnataka police, but the Forensic Science Laboratory too, has invited applications to fill 206 Scene Of Crime Officer posts with three vacancies reserved for transgenders. The deadline for the application is January 15.

The Karnataka Civil Services (General Recruitment) Rules, 1977, was amended to give a 1 per cent reservation for transgenders. Amrit Paul, additional director general of police (recruitment) was quoted as saying by TOI, “As per the government order, we reserved five posts for transgenders and called for applications.”

The notification revealed that four posts will be filled by transgenders for the special reserve sub-inspector for Karnataka State Reserve Police and one special reserve sub-inspector for India Reserve Battalion.
