A person logged into the Central government managed online passport verification system and he has finished three passport application ‘s verification process. He used a police officer’s login credentials posted at the passport branch of Mumbai Police’s Special Branch (2). The decision of issuing a passport is made by Mumbai Regional Passport Office (RPO) based on this verification. On October 7 a FIR was registered based on a complaint from a police inspector posted at SB (2). Local police will conduct a police investigation and a police verification report (PVR) is submitted to SB (2). Then the application remarks are reviewed and decides if to be denied. For all the officials posted on the passport branch ,who carryout the verification work, a login id has been created . To keep these login id’s protected the officer’s setup a password. On September 24 office was shut due to a government holiday and it’s then an unknown person hacked into the system. He somehow got the login id and password of one of the officer’s and logged into the system. Three applications of different jurisdictions have been completed by the hacker . A FIR has been registered against the unknown accused.
