Ateam of Mumbai Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) will soon visit Andhra Pradesh to probe an alleged naxal link in the Nanded drug seizure case. Though NCB says it is too early to comment on the Naxal link, the agency doesn’t rule out its possibility.

NCB Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede said, “We have just started our investigation. There are certain links that we are investigating.”

A team of Mumbai NCB is in Nanded trying to gather further information about the absconding kingpin of the drugs racket, Anil Taklu, and his associate. NCB said its primary focus is on intercepting the supplier and the kingpin.

“Anil Taklu is the mastermind of the drug trade in the state. We are looking for him,” Wankhede said.

The NCB said that the drugs used to be concealed in heavy trucks. “This drug racket was carried out in a very sophisticated manner. The drugs used to be concealed inside the iron bars and brought inside the stage. They work on a need-to-know basis so that in case the driver or the cleaner is intercepted, no one can know the identity of the supplier.

The two accused who were earlier arrested in the Nanded drug case have now been sent to judicial custody.

On November 15, Mumbai NCB seized a total of 1,127kg of marijuana (ganja) in Manjram, Nanded. NCB intercepted two persons and seized a 12-wheeler truck. The agency said that the consignment was to be delivered in Jalgaon, Maharashtra.

NCB said that the seizure was one of the highest by NCB Mumbai.
