Afluorescent green coloured Valhalla 800 Hard NXS javelin manufactured by one of the world’s leading suppliers of athletics equipment, Nordic Sports, is all set to get sold in an e-auction ending 5 pm, October 7 at an astronomical 1 crore or more. it may then go down as the most expensive javelin in history.

No doubt Nordic Sports are the makers of one of the best Javelins used by athletes competing at the highest level of the sport.The Valhalla 800 Hard NXS, preferred by many top javelin throwers at online stores, is prices at 930 or approximately 80,000 only.

So why is one specific Nordic Sport Valhalla attracting a price that’s beyond logic.

That’s because it is the magic javelin that flew 87.58m on August 7 at the Japan National Stadium from the hands of India’s Neeraj Chopra in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games to win him the gold medal in the javelin throw event

What makes the javelin premium is that it has Neeraj Chopra’s autograph on it. After his win, the latest national heartthrob met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and gifted it to him.

The javelin is now one of several items of India’s recent global sporting glory which, instead of sitting in glass shelves at the homes of sports people, is going to fund the effort to clean the Ganga under the Namami Gange Mission.

In an extremely motivating gesture, India’s sportspersons, winners at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, presented 15 items which were part of their sports kit to the prime minister . They are now a part of a cache of moments on sale in an online auction that started on September 17 under the aegis of the culture ministry.

The biggest draw of the auction is the Valhalla javelin which Neeraj Chopra presented to PM Modi. Its auction code on the website PMMEMENTO.GOV.IN is Product ID:OTOT1_9423. The website shows that the auction ends On 07 Oct 2021, at 05:00 pm. And the highest Quoted Price on Tuesday morning was a little over a whopping 1 crore

There are over 1348 mementos received as gifts by the prime minister in the e-auction, but the most coveted ones on this list, with the highest base price totalling nearly Rs 10 crore, are the nearly 15 items that the Olympians and the Paralympians presented to the PM.

This is the 3rd round of e-auction of gifts received by modi as PM since 2014.

The other Javelin on auction is the one used by Sumit Antil at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic games. The Javelin have an autograph Of Antil, who was the Javelin Gold Medallist at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic games. It’s current highest bid price is 1 crore.

This javelin was used by Sumit Antil in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic games to win the gold medal in the javelin throw F64 category by creating a current world record, of tossing the spear 68.55 metres. The Javelin is coloured neon yellow with aqua blue stripes running along the body.

The other big draw is the badminton racquet used by Indian ace shuttle PV Sindhu at the Tokyo Olympics. Sindhu became the first Indian female athlete to get back to back medals in the Olympics.

Earlier, she had won a silver medal in the Rio Olympics. Maintaining the same winning streak, Sindhu bagged the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics after defeating He Bingjiao of China 21- 13, 21-15.

Sindhu gifted the acclaimed N9 Li-Ning racquet to PM Modi. The Li-Ning racquets on online sites cost up to 25000 or 289 each. On the e-auction site it’s current highest quoted value is 80,00,000.

Then there is an Angavastra autographed by the Tokyo 2020 Olympic contingent on the list of auction items. The frame contains a white coloured plain stole with signatures and wishes from the sports players who won at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The Indian national flag is shown with its horizontal tricolour. By Tuesday morning, the highest quoted price was 90 lakh.

The white angavastra autographed by the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic contingent also has a highest quote price of 90 lakh.

The rakshak brand Hockey Stick with autographs of the Indian Hockey Women’s team is also on the e-auction list.

The blue coloured hockey stick includes a logo named Rakshak written in white, and the model number is Rani 28, which directly points to Rani Rampal, the captain of the Women’s Hockey Team of India, and 28 is her jersey number. The signatures of the entire Indian hockey team run along the body of the hockey stick. The most expensive Rakshak brand producer is ATOM 920 Concave Mould Composite Hockey Stick. It costs 11,600 on online sites, but the highest quoted price is 80 lakh

Although they played extremely well and made India proud, they secured 4th position, narrowly missing the bronze medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020.

The hockey stick with the signatures of all team members of the Indian Men’s Hockey Team Tokyo Olympics 2020 has a highest quoted price of 80 lakh. The team got India its first Olympic bronze medal after 41 years.

Another item with a highest quote price of 80 lakh currently is the pair of Boxing Gloves autographed by Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain. She was the Bronze medalist in boxing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in the welterweight (64-69 kg) category.

Another memento that depicts the rise of Indian sports women is the fence that was used by C.A. Bhavani Devi in fencing at the Olympics 2020. She is the first Indian fencer to ever qualify for the Tokyo Olympics after qualifying for the 2020 Summer Olympics. The handle of the fence is red, and on the sabre guard, a signature of Bhavani along with wishes have been signed.

Apart from the sporting items, there are hundreds of paintings and sketches of PM, shawls and similar items gifted to him.

A senior official from the culture ministry said “ At the end of the e-auction these items may fetch more than what was expected given the euphoria in the country over the performance of the Olympic and Paralympic contingents,”

The proceeds of this auction will go towards the Namami Gange Mission to clean the Ganga river.

Modi, as Prime Minister of India, started to donate all the gifts received for auction. The first such event was held in February 2015. Interestingly, in the first such auction, a pinstriped suit worn by Prime Minister Modi during his meeting with US President Barack Obama was auctioned at Rs 4.31 crore. Guinness World Records had recognised the auction to 62-year old Laljibhai Patel, a Surat-based diamond merchant, for Rs 4.31 crore as the most expensive suit ever sold.

The first version of the e-auction of gifts received by the PM included 576 shawls, 964 angavastram (clothes), 88 pagris (head-dress) and various jackets portraying the diversity of India. There were several replicas of cows.

Currently, the items on e-auction for the 3rd round are on display at the National Gallery of Modern Art. As on date, 1083 items have received bids. Item G1656 (Decorative mace) with an auction start price of 2500 has received the highest number of bids (52 bids), taking the value of the item to 1,01,000. A total of 1348 mementos are being e-auctioned this year.. The last such auction took place in 2019. The government had received Rs 15.13 crore in that auction. the entire amount was deposited in ‘Namami Gange Kosh’ to make Ganga clean and pure.

Union minister for culture, tourism and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) G Kishan Reddy, visited the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi on 2nd October to inspect the various gifts received by the Prime Minister and reviewed the progress of the e-auction.
