Virender Sehwag said that he was puzzled as to what was the reason behind Yuzvendra Chahal getting dropped from the Indian team for the T20 World Cup. The tournament starts on October 17, with India facing Pakistan in their first match on October 24.

“It’s not that Chahal was doing something different in these last two matches. He has been doing the same as he does all the time. He did the exact same thing in Sri Lanka. He knows how to bowl in this format,” said Sehwag on Cricbuzz.

Sehwag said that Chahal and Glenn Maxwell’s performance with the ball is what turned around the match for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday. Chahal ended the match with figures of 3/11 while Maxwell recorded figures of 2/23 in addition to smashing 56 off 37 balls during RCB’s innings.

“Today it was Glenn Maxwell and Chahal who made this game for RCB with the wickets they took in the middle overs. Because at one point it did look like Mumbai have such a deep batting lineup, they should be able to chase this easily,” said Sehwag.

Among the spinners chosen for the tournament are Ravichandrahn Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar and Axar Patel.

“I could never understand why he was not selected. Some sort of a reason should be given, whether he is out of form or if there seems to be someone who is better and does extraordinary bowling. It is not like we saw Rahul Chahar do that. I just couldn’t understand why Chahal was dropped, he can fit into any team,” said Sehwag.
