Wasim Khan has resigned as Pakistan Cricket Board’s Chief Executive Officer, four months before the end of his three-year contract. In a brief statement, PCB confirmed Khan’s resignation on Wednesday, adding its board of directors will ‘take up the matter’ in a meeting later in the day.

Khan had started his three-year contract as the board’s executive in 2019. His contract was set to expire in February of the following year. As a result of his resignation, PCB chairman Ramiz Raja has scheduled a meeting of the board of directors for Wednesday afternoon.

It’s the third noteworthy resignation since the appointment of Ramiz Raja as PCB chairman. Earlier, head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis also resigned from their posts with T20 World Cup just around the corner.

Raja previously stated that England and New Zealand’s choice not to play a series in Pakistan is a lesson for them and that they will now focus only on their own interests.

Following New Zealand’s decision to cancel their tour of Pakistan just before the first ODI, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that its men’s and women’s tours of Pakistan would also be cancelled.

Raja said that his team’s frustrations must now be channelled towards a successful performance in the next T20 World Cup.

“We go in the World Cup now and where we had one team in our target – our neighbours India, they now add two more teams, New Zealand and England. So pick up the strength and develop a mindset that we are not going to lose because you didn’t do right by us with us and we will avenge that in the ground,” he said.
