Param Bir Singh was declared a “proclaimed offender” last week by a magistrate’s court in Mumbai. The non-bailable warrant was issued in a case against Param Bir Singh registered at Goregaon police station on the complaint of builder-cum-hotelier Bimal Agrawal. Along with Param Bir Singh, the FIR also names dismissed police officer Sachin Vaze, and four others- Sumit Singh alias Chintu, Alpesh Patel, Vinay Singh alias Bablu, and Riyaz Bhati.

Agarwal had alleged that Param Bir Singh extorted Rs 9 lakh from him for not conducting a raid on two bars and restaurants, which he ran in partnership, and also forced him to buy two smartphones worth around Rs 2.92 lakh for them. The complaint alleged that the incident occurred between January 2020 and March 2021.

Singh on Thursday was questioned by investigating authorities for six hours in the alleged extortion case. The investigating agency served a notice to Singh stating he would have to appear before the investigators whenever needed.

Param Bir Singh was removed as Mumbai police commissioner in March 2021 after the arrest of dismissed police officer Sachin Waze. Waze was held in connection with the case of an explosives-laden vehicle found near the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai.

After he was shunted out as Mumbai Police chief, Param Bir Singh, in a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, had levelled corruption allegations against then state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
