State-run oil marketing companies have kept the prices of petrol and diesel unchanged across the country on Thursday, December 16, 2021. Fuel rates have been stable in the domestic market for nearly two months now. It may be noted that the prices of petrol and diesel were last revised on November 3, when the Centre announced a cut in excise duty on fuels, providing relief to the consumers from all-time high fuel rates.

According to the Indian Oil Corporation, the country’s largest fuel retailer, petrol continues to retail at Rs 95.41 per litre in Delhi since the city government slashed VAT on petrol by Rs 8 on December 2, whereas diesel prices have remained unchanged at Rs 86.67 per litre in the national capital.

In India’s financial hub, Mumbai, petrol is available at Rs 109.98 per litre and people have to shell out Rs 94.14 for a litre of diesel.

Similarly, the prices of petrol and diesel remained unaltered in Kolkata and stood at Rs 104.67 and Rs 89.79 per litre, respectively.

Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu’s capital, Chennai, petrol costs Rs 101.40 per litre and diesel is available at Rs 91.43 per litre.

It may be noted that the prices of petrol and diesel are the cheapest in Delhi and the most expensive in Mumbai among the four metro cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata).
