There has been no change in the prices of petrol and diesel across the country on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. The state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) have maintained stability as global crude oil rates continue to fall in the international market.

According to the Indian Oil Corporation, the country’s largest fuel retailer, petrol is retailing at Rs 103.97 in the national capital, Delhi, whereas the price of diesel is below the Rs 100 mark and costs Rs 86.67 per litre.

In India’s financial hub, Mumbai, petrol is available at Rs 109.98 per litre and diesel is being sold at Rs 94.14 per litre, the highest among all the four metro cities.

Similarly, in Chennai, people have to shell out Rs 101.56 for a litre of petrol and diesel costs Rs 91.58 per litre. On the other hand, the price of petrol remained unchanged at Rs 104.67 per litre in Kolkata and diesel is retailing at Rs 89.79 per litre.

It may be noted that among all the four metro cities, petrol is the cheapest in Chennai and diesel is the least expensive in the national capital, Delhi.

Chhattisgarh slashes VAT on petrol and diesel

The Chhattisgarh government on Monday, November 22, 2021, announced a reduction in value added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel, giving a slight relief to the consumers who were battered by record-high fuel prices.

The decision was taken during the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. However, due to VAT cuts on fuel rates, the state government will have to bear a loss of Rs 1,000 crores.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) took to its official Twitter handle and wrote:

“Providing major relief to the people of the state. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel-led cabinet has decided to cut the prices of petrol and diesel. VAT on diesel and petrol has been reduced by 2 per cent and 1 per cent respectively. The state government will bear the loss of about Rs 1,000 crores.”

VAT has been reduced by 1 percent on petrol and 2 percent on diesel, making petrol cheaper by about 90 paise and diesel by Rs 1.45 per litre in the state.

It may be noted that on November 3, the Centre had announced a reduction in the excise duty levied on petrol and diesel, following which several state governments joined the move and announced a reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel in their respective states.
