Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, December 3, paid tributes to the first President of India, Rajendra Prasad on his 137th birth anniversary.

“Tributes to the first President of Independent India Bharat Ratna Rajendra Prasad on his birth anniversary. He made special contributions to the freedom struggle of the country. His life was dedicated to the interests of the nation. He will always remain a source of inspiration for the country,” tweeted PM Modi.

Born on December 3, 1984, in Bihar, Rajendra Prasad held office as the President from January 26, 1950, to May 13, 1962. He served as president for two consecutive terms and is the only person to do so. He had distinguished himself as a lawyer, teacher and a freedom fighter. He received the Bharat Ratna award in 1962.

Prasad passed away in 1963 at the age of 78.
