Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu has suspended TMC MP Santanu Sen for the rest of the Monsoon Session a day after he snatched the papers from Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and tore them during a heated debate over the Pegasus row.

TMC MP Santanu Sen’s suspension came after the government’s move to issue a suspension notice.

On Thursday, as the proceedings in Rajya Sabha descended into chaos, Santanu Sen, who was targeting the IT minister during his statement on the Pegasus issue, alleged that Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri abused him in the House.

Santanu Sen then snatched away the papers from Vaishnaw’s hands during his statement and tore them up as chaos erupted in the House.

During the House proceedings on Friday, Chairman Venkaiah Naidu said, “Santanu Sen, please withdraw from the House. Allow the House to function.” Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 12 pm following an uproar that started during TMC MP Derek O’Brien’s statement over Thursday’s incident.

“The only business that could be transacted so far was a 4-hour discussion on COVID-19 issues and the hour-long reply of the concerned minister,” said Venkaiah Naidu on Friday.
