It was in 2019 that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Baiju Bawra was announced. Described as the director’s most ambitious magnum opus, the film has created quite a buzz. After much speculation about the cast, it seems Ranveer Singh has been roped in as the male lead for Baiju Bawra. According to reports, while Ranbir Kapoor was the first choice for the film, now Ranveer Singh has been approached for the role.

Ranveer Singh is all set to make his TV debut with The Big Picture. If things work out with Baiju Bawra, it will mark Ranveer and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s fourth collaboration. Earlier, they have given hits such as Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. About Ranveer’s casting in Baiju Bawra, a source told ETimes, “It is Ranveer Singh who has been finalised. An official announcement is in the offing, but yes, a few modalities yet remain to be worked out. Probably post all that, Bhansali will declare. But as things stand today, it is Ranveer.”

WHEN SANJAY LEELA BHANSALI’S BAIJU BAWRA WAS ANNOUNCED

Baiju Bawra was announced after Inshallah, which was supposed to bring Alia Bhatt and Salman Khan together for the first time, was shelved. The official Twitter handle of Bhansali Productions called the musical saga the filmmaker’s ambitious project in its announcement. The tweet read, “On this auspicious day, we are delighted to make your Diwali happier by announcing our next endeavour (sic).”

While the movie has been pushed along with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film with Alia Bhatt titled Gangubai Kathiawadi, due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, fans are very excited about the project.

As for Ranveer Singh, the actor will be seen next in Kabir Khan’s 83, which is based on the Indian cricket team’s 1983 World Cup win. He also has Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani with Alia Bhatt lined up. Besides these, Ranveer will be seen in Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus.

India Today tried to contact Yash Raj Films and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s team to get a confirmation on Ranveer Singh’s casting in Baiju Bawra, but they declined to comment.
