The ring of fire eclipse is a rare phenomenon that occurs when the moon covers parts of the sun forming a cosmic halo around its edges.

Weeks after the world witnessed the picturesque Bloodmoon, Supermoon and total lunar eclipse, get ready to view another celestial development in skies on Thursday-annular solar eclipse. The ring of fire eclipse will occur as the Moon comes in between the Earth and the Sun.

The ring of fire eclipse is a rare phenomenon that occurs when the moon covers parts of the sun forming a cosmic halo around its edges. An annular solar eclipse happens when the Moon is farthest from the Earth and because of the long distance between the two bodies the Moon seems smaller. It does not block the entire view of the Sun forming a dark disk on top of a larger Sun-colored.

Which Indian cities will witness solar eclipse?

While several countries in the world will witness the annular solar eclipse, India will not be able to witness the rare comic phenomenon except in extreme parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh. In Arunachal Pradesh, people can see, just before the sunset, a minuscule fraction of the sun covered by the moon, that is also very low on the horizon. The eclipse will last for barely 3-4 minutes depending upon the position. The rare cosmic development will be seen in the vast region of North America, Europe and Asia. (Photo: Nasa)

“On the northern borders, in Ladakh, a sliver of land in the border region can experience the last phase of the partial eclipse, again for a short duration, but relatively at a higher altitude than the eastern part of the country,” director of MP Birla Planetarium, Debiprasad Duari told PTI.

Officials said that a very small part of the solar eclipse will be visible from the vicinity of Dibang Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh at around 5:52 pm.

Meanwhile, the rare cosmic development will be seen in the vast region of North America, Europe and Asia. The ring of fire will be visible from parts of Greenland, North-Eastern Canada, the North Pole and some parts of Russia. In Canada, it will be seen for about three minutes, while in Greenland it will occur when the solar eclipse reaches its peak following which it will be visible in Siberia and the North Pole.
