Director Shashank Khaitan is gearing up for the release of Govinda Naam Mera, slated to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on December 16. The film, originally titled Mr Lele, was supposed to feature Varun Dhawan in the lead but the young star opted out of it. Following this, Vicky Kaushal was roped in to replace the Coolie No 1 star. In a new interview, Shashank revealed the reason behind Varun’s decision to lo quit the film. Govinda Naam Mera is a comedy thriller, produced by Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Shashank Khaitan.

SHASHANK SAYS THAT ‘NOTHING WENT WRONG’ BETWEEN HIM AND VARUN

Shashank Khaitan is awaiting the release of his latest film, Govinda Naam Mera, which stars Vicky Kaushal. It was to star Varun Dhawan when it was first announced in 2020. The actor, however, decided against going through with it. Speaking to The Indian Express, Shashank opened up about Varun’s decision to exit the film.

“Nothing went wrong. After the lockdown, we all were trying to redesign our careers and figure what we want to do. I also feel that with Varun and me, the pressure is very high when it comes to our collaboration,” he said.

Featuring Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani, and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead, Govinda Naam Mera will release on December 16, 2022, on Disney+ Hotstar. The film is produced by Hiroo Johar, Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta. This is Vicky’s first release after the Shoojit Sircar-helmed Sardar Udham, which was released on Amazon Prime Video in 2021.
