Sony has launched a new Xperia smartphone that promises to bring revolutionary new imaging technology for content creators. Named Xperia Pro-I, the new phone from the house of Sony comes as the world’s first to include a 1.0-type Exmor RS image sensor with phase detection AF (autofocus) on its camera setup.

With this large, 1-inch camera sensor, Sony promises to provide “outstanding low light performance, high dynamic range, and beautiful bokeh” on the Xperia phone. This is also the reason for the device’s name – Xperia Pro-I, wherein the I stands for Imaging. Sony also claims that it is the world’s first smartphone to enable the user to shoot high quality video in 4K 120fps

Even other than the camera, the Xperia Pro-I houses some powerful specifications. It is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, 12GB RAM and more. Here is a look at all that the new Sony Xperia smartphone has in store.

Sony Xperia Pro-I price and availability

Sony has launched the Xperia Pro-I as a top-end smartphone and has priced it accordingly. The devices comes with a $1,799 price tag, that equates to around Rs 1.35 lakh. At this price, the Xperia phone is costlier than the priciest iPhone 13 Pro Max model in the US.

Alongside, the company has introduced Sony Vlog Monitor – a new vlogging accessory to pair with the Xperia Pro-I. The Sony Vlog Monitor has been priced at $199.99 or around Rs 15,000. Both the Sony Xperia smartphone and the Vlog Monitor will be available to purchase in December via official retail stores.

As for its specifications, the Sony Xperia Pro-I comes with a 6.5-inch 4K HDR (3,840×1,644 pixels) OLED display that features 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, 21:9 aspect ratio, and 100 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut. The display also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. At the back, the Sony device gets Gorilla Glass 6 protection.

Performance is taken care of by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor that is paired with 12GB RAM and 512GB of UFS storage. This storage is further expandable up to 1TB using a micro SDXC card. The phone runs Android 11 out-of-the-box. Connectivity options include dual-SIM support, 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.2, USB Type-C, NFC, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The highlight of the smartphone is its camera setup. The Xperia Pro-I comes with triple-lens camera setup at the back, all three of which are 12-megapixel lenses. The primary one is a 1-inch type Exmor RS sensor with a variable aperture that ranges from f/2.0 to f/4.0. Sony says that this allows users to easily change the depth of field as required.

Along with this, there is a 1/2.9-inch Exmor RS sensor with f/2.4 aperture and a 1/2.5-inch Exmor RS sensor with f/2.2 aperture. All the three lenses are enhanced with ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating and a 3D iToF sensor. The camera setup comes with features like optical image stabilisation (OIS) and video shooting capabilities of 4K quality at 120fps. At the front, the Sony Xperia Pro-I sports an 8-megapixel 1/4-inch sensor with f/2.0 aperture.

The Xperia smartphone packs a 4,500mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging and can charge 50 per cent of the battery in 30 minutes. The phone measures 166x72x8.9mm and weighs 211 grams.

There are several other noteworthy features on the Xperia Pro-I. For instance, the smartphone comes with IPX5 and IPX8 rating for water resistance and IP6X rating for dust resistance. It even features Dolby Atmos, a dedicated shutter button and a shortcut key. Sony Xperia Pro-I comes in a Frosted Black colour finish.
