ASpecial Investigation Team (SIT) of the Narcotics Control Bureau will reach Mumbai from Delhi on Saturday to take over six cases which were earlier being investigated by the Mumbai unit headed by zonal director Sameer Wankhede, sources told India Today.

Sanjay Kumar Singh, the 1996 batch IPS officer and Deputy Director General (DDG) of NCB, is heading the SIT which has been tasked to take over the cases including the cruise drug, in which superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son was arrested on October 3. Singh, along with the team, is scheduled to depart from Delhi at 9:35am on an Air India flight and reach Mumbai between 11.00am and 12.00pm.

The SIT will first take over the case papers, scrutinise them and, if needed, it may re-record statements of a few people in this case, according to sources.

The SIT will also probe the case related to Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik’s son-in-law Sameer Khan and actor Armaan Kohli.

A vigilance inquiry by the NCB is already underway on allegations of procedural lapses and corruption in the Aryan Khan drug case. Statements of a few NCB officials, including Sameer Wankhede and atleast three private persons have been recorded by the vigilance team of NCB and international ramifications, in order to conduct deeper investigation to find out forward and backward linkages.”

In the report of the removal of Sameer Wankhede from these cases, the NCB further clarified that, “No officer or officers have been removed from their present roles and they will continue to assist the Operations Branch investigation as required until any specific orders are issued to the contrary. It is reiterated that the NCB functions across India as a single integrated agency.”
